Does Teeth Whitening Really Make Difference?
Sometimes, it is hard to believe a simple solution will really work. This tends to be the response I get when I suggest teeth whitening. Does it really work? Will it REALLY make a difference? The answer is a resounding YES…but
Below are my top tips to know if you are suitable
1. Compare the colour of the whites of your eyes to the colour of your teeth. Notice a difference? If your teeth are darker then this is a great treatment for you

Before Teeth Whitening

After Teeth Whitening, notice dark area on tooth, an old filling now needs to be made lighter!
2.If you drink lots to tea, coffee, red wine, smoke and that’s what has discoloured your teeth, then this will work for you to get rid of the evidence.
3. If your teeth are a grey colour or you have tetracycline staining, then it is less effective so other solutions may be needed
4. If your suffer from sensitive teeth, you can still whiten BUT need to make sure you pick someone that knows what they are doing! Teeth need to be desensitised first
5. If you are over 30 you would probably benefit from whitening…don’t shoot the messenger!
Teeth Whitening is not NEEDED. It is a choice and a fabulous treatment that works and does not damage teeth if carried out properly. In my next post I will run through how the process works and what the options are so keep tuned

I have hideously sensitive teeth and have had to give up on various whitening techniques - shop bought and from my dentist.
I read an article that you can treat sensitive teeth, can you please tell me how the proceedure is different?
Thank you.

Hi Jackie,
Thank you for your query and it is a really important one so hopefully it will help others too!
It really depends on what is causing the sensitivity. Is it because you have lots of cracks and lines on your teeth? is it because you have lost the enamel? Is it because you have alot of gum recession so dentine is exposed? Is it because there is decay present?
You can see why without a comprehensive exam it is almost impossible to tell.
Treatment can include anything from removing decay, to bonding over any exposed dentine to using professional desensitising gels in trays to help seal your teeth
If you are using a sensitive toothpaste, try changing to a different brand every 6 months to rotate them. The new colgate sensitive toothpaste is an excellent one to try
Hope this helps!
