Idiotic Service
A friend of mine told me that he has discovered the older he gets the more ‘idiots’ are out there. Initially I laughed and teased him about becoming a grumpy old man but I must confess I now agree with him… is it because I just turned 39? It really is not a glamorous number. 40 is sexy, all the comments like ‘life begins at 40’ doesn’t apply when you are 39! Anyway I digress …
Thinking about what he said, I realise it is really a case of realising the value of good service. As I get older, life seems to get more frantic and so I want solutions…especially if I am paying for it!
So last week I treated a friend to afternoon tea at a top notch London Hotel. We ask for Roibosh tea…it’s an antioxidant, caffeine free so good for you, New Year so healthy living. Yes I know, rather negated by the cream cakes that come with the package :-) Anyway waitress says ‘We don’t have any’ then looks at us, I look at her, she looks at me. She was an ‘idiot’
Now the response should have been, ‘We don’t stock it, might I suggest …’ Or if she really wanted to rock my world, ‘We don’t have it but we’ll get some for you in the meantime might I suggest.…’
What do you think? Am I being unfair? What stories do you have to tell?
I’m off to have a conversation with my team about not being ‘idiots’ you have my permission to challenge us when next you come into the practice and tell me how we did… fingers crossed!
